We hear it all the time, “they grow so fast”, “make each moment count”, or “you blink and they’re teenagers.” I know that not every family has the time to sit at the dinner table each night to sit face to face and talk about life, but I bet we can all find a few minutes each day to really connect. My favorite time to check in with Madelyn is on our car rides. She doesn’t have a dvd player and she’s not allowed to bring the leap pad into the car, unless it’s a road trip. Instead, driving time is reserved for us to connect, we sing songs, tell stories, or ask each other questions. It can be hard to come up with ways to start these conversations, so I have put together 10 questions that can serve as a spark to get the ball rolling. Each question ended up in a longer talk, but I have given Miss Madelyn’s short answer – she is so silly.
1-Would you rather be beautiful, smart, or rich?
“Smart and beautiful, I can’t decide. Smart is important, but beautiful is fun.”
2-Would you rather be the president, a movie star, or a teacher? Why?
“I want to be a movie star because I could ride in a limo and wear sparkly sunglasses.”
3-What is the most special thing about you?
“That I’m magic.”
4-If you could design your room any way that you’d like – what would it look like?
“All pink and pretty. With a couch and a big tv. And it would be huge!”
5-What is your favorite toy?
“Clifford, of course! But Lissy Doll is really important, too.”
6-What makes a good mommy?
“You have to give your little girl what she wants, like hugs and kisses and toys. “
7-What do you think is beyond the stars?
“Planets and a bunch of fireballs”
8-Have you ever had a really scary dream? What was it about?
“Yep. It was about the Harry Potter snake and it kept freezing everyone.”
9-Who is the most beautiful person you know?
“Me…and you. We are tied.”
10-Tell me what you do when you are married. How old should you be when you get married?
“You have to be, like 32 years old. You go to work and be away from each other, then come home and play with your kids. “
So, get to asking! Talk to each other! Share, laugh, and love!
What other questions can you think of? I’d also love to hear any of those silly kid answers!
Peace and love,
