Miss Madelyn had a dance team sleepover a few weeks ago and we came up with a fun and simple craft for the girls to do – Fun Flip-Flops!
First, we went to Hobby Lobby and bought each team member a pair of lime green flip-flops in their size, then I pulled out my ribbon stash and found ribbons that would look good with the flip-flops – greens, silvers, grays, and whites. I even had some green tulle left over from the neon glow birthday party I did last January, so we cut that into strips, too!
I set the volunteer Mommies to work cutting strips of ribbon approximately 6 inches long. We kept the ribbons separated by type, so the girls could pick a few from each pile – the goal was to use as many different types of ribbon as possible for that “shabby chic” look.
Then, we set the girls tying the ribbons and strips of tulle in double knots all around the straps of the shoes. Some did a couple of knots, then lost interest, but most of them followed it through until the end! There was a lot of quiet concentration going on…it was lovely.
Of course, the rest of the night wasn’t anywhere near quiet, but I guess sleepovers aren’t supposed to be:)
The flip-flops turned out great and Madelyn loves hers! Since it’s getting a bit chilly, she wears them around the house all the time.
Get to crafting!
