‘Tis the season for holiday ballets and recitals!!! Do you or your ballerina need a ballet bun for an upcoming recital? Don’t hyperventilate! Here’s a very easy one for all my fellow dance moms…
First, find a women’s trouser-type sock that closely matches your little one’s hair color. Then cut the very tip of the toe off and roll the sock into a doughnut shape – quick tip: it works better if you roll from the toe to the top of the sock.
It should look like this when your done:
Make a ponytail about where the bun needs to be and pull the ponytail through the sock, like this:
Then, have your ballerina tuck her chin and lean forward and fan out the ponytail over the sock, like so:
Next, put a tight rubberband around the whole thing – or wrap a bigger rubberband around as many times as you can.
Then, twist and bobby pin all the little pieces around the edges of the bun.
To make sure that the bun has ballet dancing and costume-changing staying power, make sure to wrap the bun in a hairnet – I buy mine from Sally’s Beauty Supply.
There you have it! Quick easy and ready for the stage!
