Are you as bow-crazy as Madelyn and I are? I’m not sure if it is the fact that I have been a dancer my whole life, but life just doesn’t seem right without a headpiece.
My obsession became rather expensive very quickly, so I have since been creating our bows myself. Madelyn loves to help with designing and creating, too!
We started with 2 colors of 1 1/2 inch ribbon, some white tulle ribbon with pretty silver sparkles – all bought from Hobby Lobby – and a shabby chic flower that I found on Etsy.
I measured and cut 6 1/2 inch strips of my gray and white chevron stripe ribbon, then cut the ends at an angle and used a lighter to melt the ends to prevent fraying.
Then, make an “X” with the 2 pieces and pinch the middle. Wrap the center with sewing thread and tie in a knot at the back.
Next, cut a strip of the contrasting ribbon- in this case, it was pink with white polka dots-measuring approximately 15 inches long.
Take the 15 inch ribbon and form it into a figure 8, then use hot glue to glue it into place.
After, the glue dries, pinch the center of the figure 8 and wrap it with thread, just as before.
Next, I cut a six inch strip of the tulle ribbon and did the same pinch and wrap with the thread.
Then, just stack each piece so that it looks the way you want it to, wrap it with more thread and glue it to a barrette. Last, glue the flower into the middle.
That’s it! Super easy and fun!
