I love getting Christmas cards. I love the beautiful pictures on the outside and I love getting actual mail in my actual mailbox. Due to my love affair with this tradition, I wanted to figure out a way to display them as part of my Christmas decorations.
I got the idea from my daughters bow holder that I made her a few years back…
I saw one of these types of bow holders at a craft fair and made it myself – that was my pre-pinterest way of getting ideas.
Of course, when I told my sister about my idea to use the same kind of thing for my Christmas cards, I heard the dreaded words, “Oh, yeah, I’ve seen that on pinterest.” 🙁 Well, there goes my genius original idea. So, I’m sure there are others out there like this, but I’m not sure where. To whoever thought of this first, nice work!
Here’s how I did it…
I bought an unfinished wood plaque at Hobby Lobby for $2.33 and painted it green.
I’m sure that you can find red clothespins somewhere, but I’m cheap and found a whole bag of them at the Dollar Tree and I already had red paint, so I painted each one while I caught up on the “Glee” episodes on my DVR.
Next, I found some thick satin ribbon in my stash and tied it in a bow and then hot glued the ends of the bow onto the back of the wood plaque.
I found a cute foam glitter candy cane ornament – also from Hobby Lobby – for $1.99- and hot glued it to the front of the plaque.
Next, I took 3 varying lengths of ribbon and hot glued them to the back of the plaque.
Then, attach the cards with the clothespins and enjoy those beautiful cards or pictures all month long.
Have a happy-crafty day!
